Abu Dhabi to Host Inaugural EuroLeague SuperCup

Abu Dhabi will inaugurate the EuroLeague Basketball SuperCup on September 18-19, a tournament set to feature four prominent basketball teams. The event will take place at the Etihad Arena and will include Olympiacos, Fenerbahce, Real Madrid, and Dubai Basketball, utilizing a Final Four structure to kick off the European club basketball season.

The competition begins with the first semifinal on September 18 at 18:00 local time, pitting the reigning EuroLeague champion Olympiacos against the 2025 champion Fenerbahce. Following this, Dubai Basketball will challenge the 2026 finalist Real Madrid at 21:00. The teams that do not advance will compete in a third-place match on September 19, leading up to the grand final of the first EuroLeague Basketball SuperCup later that evening.

The lineup for the SuperCup features three of the top four teams from the 2025-26 EuroLeague regular season. Olympiacos led the season with a 26-12 record, advancing to defeat Real Madrid 92-85 in the championship after sweeping Monaco 3-0 in the playoffs. Real Madrid finished third with a 24-14 record, reaching the Final Four by eliminating Hapoel Tel Aviv 3-1. Fenerbahce, also with a 24-14 record, secured fourth place and overcame Zalgiris 3-1 before their semifinal loss to Olympiacos. Dubai Basketball joins as the host region's representative, having completed its first EuroLeague regular season with a 19-19 record, notable for a strong 13-6 home performance but finishing 11th overall due to a 6-13 road record, missing the postseason.

This new SuperCup event represents an exciting expansion of EuroLeague basketball, bringing top-tier competition to a new international stage. It not only showcases elite athletic talent but also fosters global engagement with the sport, promoting sportsmanship and cultural exchange through competitive play.
