American History Prepares for Derby Trail After Breeders' Cup Juvenile

After concluding his two-year-old racing season with a commendable second-place performance in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, the promising colt American History is now transitioning his focus towards the highly anticipated Triple Crown series. His trainer, the esteemed Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher, announced that the Constitution progeny will be relocating to Palm Beach Downs in Florida. This move signifies the beginning of his preparation for the demanding three-year-old campaign, with the ultimate goal of competing in the Kentucky Derby.

During the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, American History experienced a challenging start, navigating through some congestion in the early stages of the race. Despite these initial difficulties, the colt, under the skillful guidance of Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez, demonstrated remarkable resilience and rallied impressively in the stretch. He ultimately secured second place, finishing just over two lengths behind the undefeated Hughes. Pletcher confirmed that American History emerged from the race in excellent physical condition, showing no adverse effects from the competitive run.

Pletcher recounted the early moments of the race, stating that Velazquez noted some jostling around the first turn, which caused American History to lose some ground and position. However, the trainer expressed satisfaction with how the colt recovered and performed strongly thereafter. This performance was particularly significant as it was only American History's third career start, representing WinStar Farm, First Go Racing, and CHC.

American History, a product of Alpha Delta Stables' breeding program, was acquired as a yearling at Keeneland for a substantial sum of $825,000. He quickly showcased his potential by breaking his maiden at Saratoga and subsequently claiming victory in the Breeders' Futurity (G1) at Keeneland earlier in October. Pletcher indicated that the colt would receive a brief rest and freshening period upon his arrival in Florida. The training team plans to formulate a comprehensive strategy for his three-year-old campaign, with the Florida route being a strong consideration for his path to the Kentucky Derby. While Hughes is likely to be crowned the two-year-old champion and an early favorite for the Kentucky Derby, American History has firmly established himself as a formidable contender.

Pletcher underscored the exceptional quality of American History, expressing considerable anticipation for the colt's upcoming three-year-old season. He also provided an update on his other four horses that participated in the Breeders' Cup races on Friday, confirming that all of them came out of their respective competitions in good health and spirits.
