Antiquarian's Racing Career Ends Due to Injury, Stud Deal Pending
The accomplished racehorse, Antiquarian, a champion of the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup in 2025, has officially concluded his competitive career. This decision was necessitated by the discovery of a minor suspensory injury affecting his left ankle. Although the prognosis for recovery is favorable, the projected rehabilitation period would have precluded his defense of the Jockey Club Gold Cup title on September 18 at Belmont Park, as well as a second bid in the Breeders' Cup Classic. Consequently, his owners, Centennial Farms, opted to retire the 5-year-old, with plans for a stud deal to be unveiled in the near future. In his 5-year-old campaign, Antiquarian competed four times. His victory in the Westchester Stakes (G3) on May 3 at Aqueduct earned a 101 Beyer Speed Figure, according to the Daily Racing Form, and marked the 500th stakes win for the formidable team of trainer Pletcher and jockey John Velazquez. Bred in Kentucky by Brereton C. Jones of Airdrie Stud, Antiquarian is the progeny of the winning Istan mare Lifetime Memory, who also produced the Grade 3 winner Fondly.
