After a three-year hiatus and a substantial $455 million redevelopment, Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y., is set to welcome back racing enthusiasts. This monumental project marks a new chapter for one of horse racing's most storied venues, promising an upgraded experience for both participants and spectators.
A Jockey's Journey: From Dressing Room to Racetrack
A recent video showcases the meticulously planned route jockeys will now traverse, beginning from their modern basement facilities, through the expansive paddock, and into the tunnel that leads directly to the familiar yet enhanced racetracks. This new pathway is designed for optimal efficiency and comfort, reflecting the overall commitment to excellence in the park's reconstruction.
Advanced Racing Surfaces for All Seasons
Belmont Park's redevelopment includes the deployment of four distinct racecourses over the next ten months. The main dirt track has been entirely rebuilt, as have the inner and outer turf tracks, all featuring advanced drainage systems. A significant addition is the new Tapeta surface, which will serve as an alternative for races moved from the turf due to weather and will also be utilized for year-round racing, marking Belmont Park's first winter racing season.
Public Access and Future Developments of the Grandstand
Currently, two of the new grandstand's five floors are accessible to the public, offering a glimpse into the future of the facility. The third and fourth floors are slated for completion by spring 2027, while the fifth floor is reserved for New York Racing Association officials.
