Chad Brown Prepares Four Travers Day Contenders
Elite horse trainer Chad Brown saw four of his top contenders engage in rigorous morning workouts on Saturday, as they finalize preparations for the prestigious Travers Day events. This includes Sea Strike and Emerging Market, who are both aiming for the highly anticipated Grade 1, $1.25 million Travers Stakes, alongside Ways and Means and Fully Subscribed, slated for the Ballerina (G1) and Personal Ensign (G1) races, respectively.
Sea Strike, owned by Flanagan Racing, demonstrated his prowess by completing four furlongs on Saratoga's primary track in 48.70 seconds. This will be Sea Strike's fourth career start and his first since securing an impressive 8 1/4-length victory in the restricted Listed Curlin Stakes on August 2 at Saratoga. Brown expressed confidence in the horse, noting his consistent performance in training. He acknowledged that the horse's schedule had faced minor disruptions, which prevented him from competing in an allowance race before the Curlin. However, Sea Strike's recent triumph has validated his training efforts.
Emerging Market, representing Klaravich Stables, also performed admirably, clocking 48.30 seconds over the Oklahoma training track for a four-furlong breeze. This colt had previously clinched the Louisiana Derby (G2) in March, defeating Golden Tempo. Despite some recent setbacks, including a tenth-place finish in the Kentucky Derby and a fifth in the Belmont Stakes, followed by a second-place finish against older horses in an optional claiming race, Brown remains optimistic. He believes the horse has experienced unfortunate racing circumstances and is due for a more favorable outcome in the Travers.
Additionally, two other Klaravich-owned horses, Ways and Means and Fully Subscribed, also completed their training sessions. Ways and Means, who recently won the Bed o' Roses (G2) on June 5, covered four furlongs in 48.55 seconds, preparing for the Ballerina (G1). Fully Subscribed, coming off a hard-fought win in the Shuvee (G2) on July 24, recorded a four-furlong breeze in 48.40 seconds, setting her sights on the Personal Ensign (G1). Both Ballerina and Personal Ensign are races designed for fillies and mares, scheduled for the following Saturday. Brown lauded their performances as "excellent" and "outstanding," remarking on their nearly identical workout times.
These crucial morning exercises are a final test for these equine athletes, ensuring they are in prime condition for the challenging races ahead. The outcomes of these upcoming events will significantly impact their careers and standings in the world of horse racing, reflecting the dedication of their trainers and the potential of the horses themselves.
