D'Amato Enters Three in Rodeo Drive Stakes at Santa Anita, Led by Thought Process
Veteran conditioner Phil D’Amato, who boasts victories in the last two installments of the Grade 2 Rodeo Drive Stakes with Mission of Joy and Hang the Moon, and four wins overall in the event, is preparing a formidable trio for Saturday’s 1 1/4-mile turf challenge at Santa Anita. Among his entries, the Grade 1 winner Thought Process stands out as the morning-line favorite with odds of 4-5.
Thought Process, a four-year-old filly by Collected, previously secured a top-tier victory in the Gamely (G1) over 1 1/8 miles on turf at Santa Anita in May. However, her most recent outing at Del Mar saw her finish second by a length in the John C. Mabee (G2), despite being the 3-5 favorite. D'Amato attributed this to her rival gaining an early advantage. The upcoming Rodeo Drive serves as a 'win-and-you’re-in' opportunity for the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf, a 1 3/16-mile race at Keeneland. D'Amato expressed confidence in Thought Process's ability to handle the 10-furlong distance, noting her strong gallop-out in the previous race. Breaking from the rail with jockey Hector Berrios, she is expected to secure a favorable tactical position in a field lacking significant early pace. D'Amato's other entrants include Public Assembly (15-1) and Kentucky Gal (20-1). Public Assembly, a five-year-old mare, is seeking her first win since April 2025 and will be ridden by Julien Leparoux. Kentucky Gal, who finished third in the CTT and TOC Stakes at Del Mar, will be guided by Joel Rosario, with D'Amato optimistic about her ability to conserve ground and perform well over the longer distance.
