Under the stewardship of St. Elias Stable, Ken Langone, C. Steven Duncker, and Vicarage Stable, Deterministic made a memorable debut at two years old, securing a maiden special weight victory at Saratoga on dirt, trained by Christophe Clement. His three-year-old season began with another triumph in the Gotham (G3) at Aqueduct, also on dirt, showcasing his early prowess. Later, transitioning to turf, he captured the Virginia Derby (G3) at Colonial Downs, demonstrating his remarkable adaptability.
