Dubai Basketball Secures Davion Mintz for Upcoming EuroLeague Seasons

Dubai Basketball has made a significant addition to its lineup for the impending 2026-27 season, confirming the multi-year contract of American guard Davion Mintz. This strategic move aims to enhance the team's competitiveness in the EuroLeague, building on Mintz's stellar performance in the German Bundesliga. His arrival is part of a broader initiative by the club to strengthen its roster under the guidance of newly appointed head coach Xavi Pascual, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.

The 28-year-old guard comes to Dubai after making a name for himself as a top-tier backcourt talent in Germany's Bundesliga. Mintz's exceptional scoring ability and accurate long-range shooting were key factors in Dubai's decision, adding a crucial offensive element to the team. This signing underscores Dubai's ambition as they prepare for their second EuroLeague campaign.

During the previous German League season, Mintz maintained impressive statistics, averaging 16.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists across 31 games. His consistent play extended into the postseason, where he posted averages of 15.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists, playing a vital role in keeping Wurzburg competitive.

Mintz's influence wasn't limited to domestic competitions; he also excelled in the Basketball Champions League. In 14 appearances, he averaged 15.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists, showcasing his scoring ability against international opponents. Across all competitions with Wurzburg, his overall averages stood at 16.2 points, with efficient shooting percentages of 44.6% from the field, 42.0% from beyond the arc, and 83.5% from the free-throw line.

Before his successful stint in Europe, Mintz had a diverse professional journey. After his college career at Creighton and Kentucky, where he averaged 7.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists over 153 games and made 171 three-pointers, he transitioned to the professional ranks. Although undrafted in 2022, he joined the Washington Wizards and spent two seasons with their G League affiliate, the Capital City Go-Go. He also had a brief period with Metros de Santiago in the Dominican Republic before moving to Europe, where he first played for Filou Oostende in Belgium. His career gained significant momentum after joining Wurzburg in February 2025, solidifying his reputation as one of the Bundesliga's most dependable offensive guards.

Mintz is the latest in a series of significant roster adjustments for Dubai Basketball this offseason. The club has already brought in the accomplished EuroLeague-winning coach Xavi Pascual and secured key players like Jaron Blossomgame and Elie Okobo. These additions come as several notable players, including Nate Mason, Bruno Caboclo, Taran Armstrong, Matt Ryan, Boogie Ellis, and Aleksa Avramovic, have departed the team.

In their previous EuroLeague season, Dubai achieved a respectable 19-19 record, finishing 11th in the regular-season standings and narrowly missing a spot in the play-in tournament. The team demonstrated balanced scoring, with Dwayne Bacon leading the charge at 15.1 points per game, supported by Dzanan Musa's 14.5 points and Mfiondu Kabengele's contributions of 13.3 points and 5.5 rebounds.

The acquisition of Davion Mintz represents a pivotal step in Dubai Basketball's ongoing efforts to build a formidable team capable of competing at the highest levels of European basketball. His proven scoring ability and experience will be invaluable as the club aims to improve upon its previous EuroLeague performance and establish itself as a dominant force under the fresh leadership of Coach Pascual.
