Witness the Resurgence: Champions Return to the Track!
Coal Battle's Return to Training and Recent Performances
Coal Battle, a celebrated Grade 2 winner, resumed his training schedule on Tuesday at Ellis Park. The four-year-old colt, sired by Coal Front, completed a four-furlong breeze in 49.4 seconds, marking his inaugural timed workout since his previous race. Trained by Lonnie Briley, Coal Battle secured victory in the Rebel Stakes (G2) at Oaklawn in February 2025 and the Smarty Jones, also at Oaklawn, earlier that year. His most recent outing saw him finish second in the Ack Ack (G3) at Churchill Downs in September. Despite a challenging year with no wins in five starts, he boasts an impressive career record of 5 wins, 3 seconds, and 3 thirds from 16 starts, accumulating over $1.4 million in earnings for Norman Stables.
Updates on Other Graded Stakes Winners' Workouts
Beyond Coal Battle, six other graded-stakes winners were also observed in their Tuesday workouts. Tejano Twist, a two-time Grade 3 winner, logged a four-furlong breeze at Churchill Downs.
