Emerging Stars: Monomoy Girl's Offspring Debuts at Saratoga
This edition of 'Prospect Watch' directs its attention to the racecourses at Saratoga and Ellis Park, where a distinguished assembly of debutant thoroughbreds, boasting elite bloodlines, are set to compete. The most prominent among these is Effusive, a two-year-old filly by Into Mischief, whose dam is the celebrated champion Monomoy Girl, recognized as one of the most accomplished fillies of her era. Also garnering considerable interest are first-time entrants at Saratoga such as Have Hope and Ize a Runner, both offspring of Grade 1-winning mares.
Highlighting the Saturday races, Effusive, a two-year-old filly sired by Into Mischief and out of the illustrious Monomoy Girl, will commence her racing career in Saratoga's seventh race. Monomoy Girl's stellar career saw her accrue over $4.78 million and secure ten graded stakes victories. Trainer Brad Cox, who previously guided Monomoy Girl, also oversees Effusive, a Spendthrift Farm homebred. Effusive will break from post position one in a six-furlong dirt maiden special weight event, with jockey Manuel Franco. Competing in the same Saratoga race seven is Have Hope, a two-year-old filly also by Into Mischief, whose dam, Family Way, earned $1 million and achieved Grade 3 status. Trainer Todd Pletcher presents this Repole Stable filly from post four, with veteran jockey John Velazquez in the saddle. Furthermore, Let Em Know, a two-year-old colt by Jackie's Warrior and out of Grade 2 winner America's Tale, will debut in Saratoga's first race. Ize a Runner, a three-year-old colt by Gun Runner out of Grade 1 winner Harmonize, will make his first start in Saratoga's ninth race, with his half-brother Integration already a Grade 2 winner with $1.85 million in earnings.
Looking ahead, several horses are poised for their second and third career starts. Beach Life, a two-year-old filly by Life Is Good, makes her second start on Thursday in Saratoga's fifth race, switching to turf after a third-place finish on dirt. Red Square, a three-year-old colt by American Pharoah, will have his second outing on Friday in Saratoga's first race, having shown a respectable speed figure in his debut. Grand Gesture, a four-year-old gelding and full brother to Grade 2 winner Damon's Mound, returns for his second start in Saratoga's second race on Friday, and Sir Duke, a three-year-old colt by Quality Road, also competes in the same race, possessing strong potential based on his debut. On Saturday, Greenwell, a two-year-old colt by Flightline, makes his second start in Saratoga's first race, following a strong second-place debut. Stimulate, a three-year-old colt by Tapit, and Noble Edition, a three-year-old colt by Into Mischief, will both run in Saratoga's ninth race on Saturday, making their second appearances. Among the third-time starters, Jadorlinija and Moonlit, both three-year-old fillies from trainer Miguel Clement, will compete in Saratoga's sixth race on Thursday, with Moonlit boasting the highest speed figure in the field. Roadie, a four-year-old gelding, makes his third start in Saratoga's second race on Thursday, while Red Velvet Cake, a four-year-old mare, switches to a shorter turf trip for her third start in Saratoga's twelfth race on Saturday.
