Golden Tempo's Trainer Confident Ahead of Travers Stakes
Cherie DeVaux, the trainer of Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes champion Golden Tempo, is highly optimistic about the horse's prospects for the upcoming Travers Stakes. Golden Tempo recently completed a four-furlong workout in 47.46 seconds at Saratoga, with jockey Jose Ortiz aboard. This training session, though conducted later than usual due to heavy fog and on a track still damp from previous rain, showcased the horse's robust condition. DeVaux noted that the gallop-out was intentionally less strenuous than previous weeks, reflecting a strategy to manage the horse's energy given his extensive recent preparation.
DeVaux remarked on Golden Tempo's excellent physical and mental state, emphasizing his improved focus and enthusiasm during training, particularly since the introduction of blinkers. After winning the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes, Golden Tempo had a brief recovery period in June due to illness but has since returned to a rigorous training schedule at Keeneland and Saratoga. Jockey Jose Ortiz, who has ridden Golden Tempo in all his races and recent workouts, echoed DeVaux's sentiments, expressing satisfaction with the horse's readiness and indicating that a peak performance is anticipated for the Travers.
Beyond Golden Tempo, DeVaux also provided updates on other promising three-year-olds under her care. Englishman is set to compete in the H. Allen Jerkens Memorial, while Remember Mamba, following a fourth-place finish in the Saratoga Derby, might seek a change of venue to Keeneland for his next race. Supercharger, having secured a victory in the Secretariat, is slated for the Old Dominion Derby at Colonial Downs, illustrating DeVaux's diverse and active stable management as the racing season progresses.
The meticulous preparation and unwavering confidence surrounding Golden Tempo are a testament to the dedication required in competitive horse racing. Such commitment not only showcases the physical prowess of these magnificent animals but also highlights the strategic foresight of their trainers and riders. It inspires admiration for the pursuit of excellence and the spirit of competition that defines this thrilling sport.
