The announcement from Gulfstream Park's racing office confirms the cancellation of Thursday's races, September 10, 2026, marking an unexpected disruption to the Sunshine Meet's inaugural Thursday. This meet, which began on September 4 with a nine-race schedule, was planned for a four-day racing week, extending from Thursday through Sunday. The post time for the initial race each day remains 12:20 p.m. EDT. The races that had successfully gathered enough participants for the canceled Thursday program will now be integrated into Friday's card. This revised Friday schedule sets the stage for a prominent Saturday program. The highlight of Saturday's events is the 40th running of the $225,000 Princess Rooney (G3), a seven-furlong competition for fillies and mares aged three and above. The victor of this prestigious race will secure an automatic entry into the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint, which is slated for October 31 at Keeneland. In addition to the Princess Rooney, two other significant stakes races will take place on Saturday: the $100,000 Bob Umphrey Turf Sprint, a five-furlong grass dash for horses three years and older, and the $100,000 Ginger Punch, a one-mile turf race designated for fillies and mares aged three and above. The Sunshine Meet boasts a total of 14 stakes races, collectively offering $1.925 million in prize money, which includes an additional $250,000 from the Florida-Bred Incentive Fund. This meet serves as a prelude to Gulfstream's highly anticipated 2026-2027 Championship Meet, scheduled to commence on November 26.
