Mott's Strategic Choices for Knightsbridge in Breeders' Cup
Trainer Bill Mott is strategically weighing options for Knightsbridge's Breeders' Cup participation, contingent on the condition of star horse Sovereignty. According to a report from Daily Racing Form, if Sovereignty is sidelined from the Breeders' Cup Classic, Knightsbridge will step in to fill that void. Sovereignty recently resumed training after recovering from a foot abscess, with Mott expressing optimism about his return, provided there are no further setbacks.
Sovereignty, the reigning 2025 Horse of the Year and victor of last year's Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes, and Travers, has secured one win in three starts this year, notably taking the Whitney, which guaranteed his spot in the Classic. However, if Sovereignty proceeds to the Classic, Knightsbridge will be directed toward the Dirt Mile, as confirmed by Michael Banahan, Godolphin USA's director of bloodstock. Knightsbridge, a five-year-old by Nyquist, has shown stellar form with recent triumphs in the Pacific Classic and Monmouth Cup, and has also been actively preparing at Saratoga, having earned a Classic berth through his Pacific Classic win.
This careful planning demonstrates the depth of talent and strategic flexibility within Mott's stable, ensuring both horses are optimally placed to compete for championship honors. The adaptability showcased by the team reflects their commitment to maximizing each horse's potential on racing's biggest stage.
