Mystik Bayou, half-brother to Mystik Dan, Secures Maiden Victory at Belmont

Mystik Bayou, the esteemed half-brother to the 2024 Kentucky Derby champion, Mystik Dan, recently celebrated his inaugural victory in his second competitive outing. The promising colt achieved this milestone in the opening race at Belmont, showcasing notable talent and potential.

Under the expert guidance of trainer Kenny McPeek, who also conditioned Mystik Dan, Mystik Bayou entered the race as the third choice among seven contenders. Jockey Ricardo Santana expertly navigated the race, initially breaking swiftly before settling behind pacesetter Mystrix, strategically positioned just outside the favored Tap Our Way. As the race progressed around the far turn, Mystik Bayou advanced, taking the lead near the five-sixteenths mark and ultimately outpacing Tap Our Way by an impressive 4 1/4 lengths. He completed the 1 1/16 miles on Belmont's fast dirt track in a commendable 1:42.03, securing a winning payout of $14.56. Following Mystik Bayou and Tap Our Way, Election Hero, despite a poor start, rallied to claim third place, with Le Patron, Mystrix, Squadron, and Obliterated completing the field. Mystik Bayou's dam, Ma'am, a Colonel John mare, has now produced three winners from three starters, including Mystik Dan and Yes Ma'am, further solidifying her lineage's success.

This triumph is particularly significant as Mystik Bayou is also the first winner for his sire, Wells Bayou, a son of Lookin at Lucky, who won the 2020 Louisiana Derby. The ownership group, including Lance Gasaway, Four G Racing, and Daniel Hamby III, who also bred and owned Mystik Dan, expressed immense excitement. Gasaway remarked on the thrill of witnessing Mystik Bayou's performance and the hope that he will emulate his half-brother's achievements. Cherilyn Gasaway further added that stretching him out proved to be the right decision, and his strong performance has generated considerable enthusiasm among the team.

The successful maiden victory of Mystik Bayou not only underscores his individual promise but also reinforces the exceptional genetic legacy of his family. This win suggests a bright future for the young colt, potentially adding another chapter to a lineage already distinguished by classic winners. His journey will be keenly watched by enthusiasts, anticipating further remarkable performances on the track.
