His trainer, Chad Brown, informed Daily Racing Form that the colt's return to racing is now slated for 2027, following this latest setback.
Unrelated Issue: New Challenge for the Star Colt
The current problem plaguing Paladin is distinct from the condylar fracture that abruptly concluded his Triple Crown aspirations in March. This new health concern emerged as he was gradually intensifying his training program, highlighting an unforeseen challenge in his recovery journey.

Chad Brown elaborated on the situation, stating, "He had been undergoing light training for about a month. As we began to increase the intensity of his workouts, he exhibited some discomfort in his hindquarters." Brown further explained, "After a thorough examination, a minor issue was identified. He will now undergo another period of rest before returning to training. Our commitment to seeing him race next year remains firm."

Paladin had rejoined Brown's stable at Saratoga in July, having successfully recuperated from his fracture at Ashford Stud in Kentucky. His initial injury occurred on March 28 at Payson Park in Florida, where Paladin suffered a non-displaced condylar fracture in his right front ankle. This happened after he completed a half-mile breeze in 48.8 seconds. Dr. Larry Bramlage performed surgery at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky., implanting two screws. Prior to this, Paladin was a leading contender for the Kentucky Derby, having accumulated 60 qualifying points.

Acquired for $1.9 million at the 2024 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale, the son of Gun Runner boasts an impressive record of three wins from three starts for his owners, including Susan Magnier, Michael Tabor, and Peter Brant. His debut on October 17, 2025, at Aqueduct saw him finish a head behind Renegade, but he was awarded first place after stewards disqualified Renegade for interference. Subsequently, Paladin bested Renegade by two lengths in the Remsen (G2) in December 2025 and narrowly defeated Chip Honcho by a half-length in the Risen Star at Fair Grounds on February 14, showcasing his exceptional talent.
