The early stages of the seven-furlong race were marked by an eventful start, as Girvy Girl veered outward and made contact with Harper's Corner. Despite the disruption, Girvy Girl quickly recovered to take the lead, setting a swift pace with a quarter-mile split of 22.35 seconds. Angel of Kirk pressed the leader from the outside, matching strides by the half-mile mark, clocked at 44.96 seconds. Summer Starlet maintained a comfortable position in third, positioned two to three wide, observing the leaders from a strategic distance.
As the field rounded the turn, Angel of Kirk moved to the inside to challenge Harper's Corner directly, pushing the pace through three-quarters of a mile in 1:09.72.
